The NCBDDD Family Liaisons

The National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) Family Liaisons are an operative example of effective partnerships between families and professionals. The Champions and the Family Liaisons work together across the thematic areas. The NCBDDD Champions and Family Liaisons believe that family-professional partnerships can be effective drivers of public health change that bridge the lifespan through policy work and programs and advocacy.

Effective Partnership with Families

As articulated in the MCHB definition and principles of family centered care effective family professional partnerships mean that families and professionals work together in the best interest of the child and the family. “The intentional practice of working with families for the ultimate goal of positive outcomes in all areas through the life course.” Family engagement reflects a belief in the value of family leadership at the individual, community and policy levels. The Friends of NCBDDD strive for excellence in partnership and for this reason the Friends of NCBDDD partner with Families Liaisons and together work to enhance the mission and activities of the Friends of NCBDDD.

Across the Lifespan

In the NCBDDD, the work that the Center, Champions and Family Liaisons do collectively is not momentary, but it spans across the lifespan of the people touched. The Family Liaisons work in their communities, in their organizations and also at the National level in their thematic areas. More than likely, you are familiar with their work!
